Max Gutierrez is an LA-based Director/DP with a knack for capturing those ‘wink and smile’ comedic moments. Working with celebrities and professional athletes is his jam because they’re demanding, hard to please and eager to end the day early, and that’s just fine with him. As a family man, he approaches visual storytelling and lifestyle work with an honesty and humanity that is based in years of juggling kids, coaching sports and pretending he’s still cool enough to hang out with the teens.
With a background in music videos, indie films and film school, he's a scrappy filmmaker at heart and knows how to get it done with less, although he prefers the shoots with Boba Bars and prime rib.
His work has been recognized by some of the biggest names in the business, including AdWeek, Ad Age, The Drum, the One Club, The Addy’s and the Young Director Awards at Cannes. His music video work was featured in Billboard Magazine and nominated for Best Music Video of the Year honors by the Latin Grammys, MTV Europe, the Premios Juventud Awards and the Orgullosamente Latino. If you haven't heard of some of these award shows, don't feel bad, neither had Max.
A San Francisco native, Max graduated from UC Berkeley and enjoyed a stint at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners before earning his MFA from the School of Cinematic Arts at USC. Like Uncle Rico, he’ll occasionally reminisce about his football playing days and how he held a mean clipboard backing up Matt Hasslebeck at Boston College. He’s an avid sport fan and will talk your ear off yarning about the Niners and Warriors if you let him.
When Max is not on set, he loves spending time with his family, planning tropical getaways and trips to Mammoth, coaching sports or just ordering Doordash and watching reruns of Teen Titans. When there's nothing on TV, he sometimes writes about himself in the third person.
